The key to the perfect finish is in the preparation, so take your time now, follow these simple steps, and you’ll be rewarded with a gorgeous new look. Start by ensuring that all the timber to be varnished is clean, dry and free from dust, grease, polish or anything else. Remove any flaking or crazed varnish and fill any cracks or joints with a suitable Wood Filler. Softwood which has not already been pre-treated should first be given a coat of a suitable Wood Preserver. Sound existing varnish should be lightly sanded down with fine waterproof paper and rinsed thoroughly. Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding.
Now for the fun bit! For best results, stir well before use and apply at least two coats evenly using a brush along the grain paying particular attention to end grain. Sand down lightly between coats.
Once you have completed painting, remove as much product as possible from brushes before cleaning immediately in White Spirit or Turpentine Substitute.
