Sand colours & Scandinavian inspired minimalism in the soothing house of Emma & Kevin
Emma (26) and Kevin (29) bought their first house a year and a half ago. Colour is an essential component in the way Emma decorates her home. She finds inspiration in nature, especially in the playful structures of sand.
MY inspiration
Emma and Kevin both have busy jobs and find a sense of serenity in nature. Whilst visiting their local nature reserve, they enjoy immersing themselves in the peaceful forest. Emma is also a photographer and often uses the nature reserve for inspiration in her work: “Whether on a walk locally or on holiday in Sardinia; I like to take pictures of the sand, there can be certain, special structures that arise. I use the different colours and shades that I capture as inspiration for my interior. I wanted to bring the peace we find in nature into our home.”
MY colour
You can find Emma’s inspiration everywhere in her home. The MY colour app offered colour options for the ideas that she had in mind, and she could then easily assess how these colours would look in her home with the MY colour testers. Emma has also used the 60-30-10 principle, where she chose her favourite colour, El Capitan, as the main colour. In addition, Emma and Kevin chose Singing Sand as the feature colour, and Whitby Jet as the accent colour. Emma: “You can find the sand tones from my photos throughout our house. There is also enough white, which provides a canvas for the colours to stand out, combined with black-grey accessories such as lamps, chairs and the table legs. But it’s the sand colours that bring warmth into it." The furniture, with light wood tones contribute to an oasis of peace. The colour palette is followed throughout the house – from the kitchen to the bedroom. “The beige tones paired with white provides peace and light.”
MY home
Emma: “My boyfriend and I both have busy jobs. We like it that when we come home there is a quiet, calming atmosphere. I’m looking for that peace, not only in the colours, but throughout the interior. I would describe it as minimalist, Scandinavian interior with a touch of industrial. I like to discover which colours I’m looking for myself, by using the app I managed to easily create a palette to find my inspiration.”
