Preparation
Preparation is key in any project, and if you want to ensure your garden furniture has long lasting protection then it’s important to properly prepare your surfaces for painting.
Check your timber to be treated is sound, clean, dry and free from dust, grease, polish or anything else.
Use fungicidal wash to treat any mould or lichen, then remove with a scraper or stiff brush and treat the surface again.
Make sure any old paint or varnish is removed
Application
Now it’s time to start applying your garden colours paint. Before you use your paint, stir it well and keep stirring now and again during use. Make sure to apply the paint evenly using a paintbrush, working the paint well into the timber along the grain of the wood. Usually one coat will be sufficient, however in your timber is rough or badly cracked then you should apply two coats of paint. Make sure to allow 2-4 hours between coats in normal condition. If you wish to achieve a bolder colour, then more coats of paint will be required. Your finished look will give your garden furniture up to four years of protection.
