Preparation: render/rough cast/pebble dash

Preperation: render/rough cast/pebble dash

Unpainted Surfaces: External walls

  • The surfaces should be sufficiently dry enough to receive the coatings and effective damp proof course should be in place for best results
  • Areas affected by mould, moss, or lichen type growths must be washed liberally with water containing a fungicidal/sterilisation wash (See Mangers Range) following the instructions for use on the container
  • Scrape and brush the surface down with a stiff bristle brush or power wash the surface to remove all unsound material, dirt and sterilised growths. Do not use a wire brush
  • Cracks and surface defects need to be raked out and filled with a lime-free sand and cement mix, or exterior filler (see Mangers Range) to level and blend to the existing surface and allow to dry
  • If the surface is very chalky or powdery to the touch then a stabilising primer must be applied. However, if the surface is sound a coat of the masonry paint can be applied, diluted with up to 10% clean water, and followed by two full coats of the finish

Previously Painted Surfaces: External walls

  • Remove all paint that is loose, flaking, peeling, heavily layered, or generally unsound by scrapping, chipping, or stiff bristle brushing back to a firm edge
  • On areas of large-scale breakdown and on very underbound powdery surfaces, power washing is a quick method of preparation. Care should be taken to ensure that the substrate is not damaged
  • Mould, moss and lichen type growths must be washed liberally with water containing a sterilisation, or fungicidal solution (see Mangers Range) following the manufacturer’s instructions for use closely
  • Sterilised growths and any unsound material should be by removed by scraping and brushing down with a stiff bristled brush (not a wire brush), alternatively the surface could be power washed, again taking care not to damage the substrate
  • Cracks and surface defects should be raked out and filled/made good using an appropriate exterior filler material (see Mangers Range) or a lime-free sand and cement mix
  • If the surface is very chalky and powdery after preparation, a stabilising primer should be applied to the substrate prior to application of the finishing coats
  • If the surface is sound prime all bare and made good areas with a thin coat of masonry paint, diluted 10% with clean water, followed by the selected masonry paint
