HOW TO TURN FURNITURE FROM SHABBY TO SHABBY CHIC
Using chalky furniture paint is a great way to add your own style and personality to a piece of furniture. Here’s how we turned these drawers from shabby to shabby chic.

What you’ll need

Drawer Unit
Johnstone’s Revive Chalky Furniture Paint - Cushion White
A damp cloth
Sandpaper
Roller or Paint Brush
Johnstone’s Revive Finishing Wax – Clear
Johnstone’s Revive Finishing Wax – Sepia
Dust sheets
Masking tape

Preparation

  • Lay dust sheets and use masking tape to protect areas you won’t be painting
  • Sand away any existing paint. This is important to ensure a smooth surface for the best finish
  • Wipe the surface of the furniture and each of the draws with a damp cloth - wait to dry. That’s all the preparation needed! Johnstone’s Revive Chalky Furniture Paint has been specially formulated to cover almost any surface without any other preparation

Paint & Polish

• Shake your Johnstone’s Revive tin, open and stir. Avoid overloading the brush, so you can ensure a more even coat of paint
• Paint with two coats of Johnstone’s Revive Chalky Furniture Paint. Apply to the edges first, then apply to the large areas
• Ensure that your first coat is completely dry (upto 4 hours) before applying the second coat.
• Apply the second coat and wait for this to dry
• Sand to create a distressed look

Sit Back & Seal

• Once the paint has dried, seal by applying Johnstone’s Revive Clear Finishing Wax to the outside of the drawers in a circular motion with a spare cloth. This is perfect for highlighting ornamental features and woodgrain in your piece
• Now let’s tackle the drawers!

Drawers

• Follow the same actions as above, however to add an aged effect to the drawers themselves, apply Johnstone’s Revive Sepia Finishing Wax
• Maintain your finish by wiping clean with a damp cloth and re-wax as required!
• Sit back and admire your revived drawers
